Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a member of the club to train my dog with the club?

Yes you do.

Do I need to book or do I just turn up?

You need to attend an Orientation night before you commence classes. For details go to the Events section on the website

Can my children train our dog?

Children twelve years of age and up are permitted based on their ability to handle their dog, which will be assessed by the instructor. Children under twelve are not permitted to train a dog in class.

At what age can my puppy start?

Your puppy can start two weeks after its final vaccination (usually about sixteen weeks).

What if I don't think my dog needs training?

Dogs love learning and they crave your approval. Attendance at training socialises your dog so that it is comfortable in the presence of other dogs and other people, a skill that keeps them well balanced and contented. It will help you engage with your dog and make it easier for you to communicate with them and to bond with each other.

Is my dog too old for classes?

No dog is too old to start training. We cater for dogs of all ages and all breeds providing obedience classes from puppy up to trialling levels.

What happens if I miss my class?
Don’t worry, just resume training the next week or as soon as you can.

What do I need to bring to class?

A flat or training collar with identification disc (Check chains are not permitted).
A fabric lead 750mm – 1.2m long (Extender leads are not permitted).
A treat pouch with a selection of moist treats such as cheese, cooked sausage or chicken cut into tiny pieces.
Poo bags

Dog training collars, leads and treat pouches are available for sale at the ground.

What do I wear to class?

Sensible closed-in shoes (Thongs and high heels are not permitted).
Fitted clothes that will not flap or hang down in the dog’s face.

What happens if it’s raining?

If classes are cancelled due to wet weather a notice will be posted on our Facebook page after 4.30pm that afternoon.

Do I have to train my dog at home?

To get the best results for your dog, it is recommended to keep practicing at home to reinforce what you have learnt in class. Short bursts of 3 minutes at a time once or twice a day is all it takes.

How much does it cost?
